Hi, I’m Jonathan
Thanks for checking out my reel.
With a background as a contemporary artist, I’ve developed a strong appreciation for fine detail and an instinctive understanding of light, colour, and composition—skills that translate directly into my work as a compositor.
Originally from London, I’ve been fortunate to live and work in places such as Istanbul, Montreal, Halifax, and Toronto. Each new city and project has challenged me in different ways, shaping my artistic perspective and deepening my knowledge of compositing. These experiences continue to fuel both my love of visual storytelling and my passion for travel.
Whether refining a key, integrating CG elements, or tackling complex compositing challenges, I approach every frame with precision, creativity, and a commitment to quality.
Beyond visual effects, I’m an artist at heart. In my spare time, I create drawings and paintings, which can be seen at jjoubertdraw.com.
Feel free to check out my work or reach out— I am always happy to connect!
I have three years of experience delivering high-end compositing for film, episodic, and animation, working across remote, hybrid, and on-site setups. This flexibility has given me a strong grasp of different pipelines and production needs, and my responsibilities as a compositor supported by the following core skills:
Core Compositing
Confident with the challenges of advanced keying (including edge refinement, edge extension, and spill suppression)
Experience completing high-end rotoscoping for motion blur and hair detail using tracked splines and edge blending
Seamless paint and clean-up including plate reconstruction, degrain/regrain workflows, and pixel cloning
Multi-pass CG compositing with AOV management (Diffuse, Specular, Normals, Z-Depth, Cryptomatte)
Accurate relighting and grading of CG assets using position and normal passes
Integration of DMP, FX, live-action, and CG layers into unified photographic space
Camera tracking workflows and camera re-projection for set extensions and background fixes
3D & Deep Compositing
Experience with Deep image compositing with Z-depth-aware integration and holdouts
Use of Nuke’s 3D system for camera tracking, geo projections, cards, and relight setups
Custom lighting inside Nuke for comp-level enhancements
Pipeline & Tooling
Confident with Linux-based production environments
Experience with ShotGrid for shot tracking and version control
Familiarity with custom gizmo development and tool optimization for studio pipelines
